For actors

Before you sign that talent agreement, check these three things.

A booking or talent agreement sets a rate for a shoot or a run. The clauses that decide what the job is worth are about use: where and for how long your image can appear, what else you are barred from doing, and when you are paid.

Usage in all media, forever

A one-day session fee buys use of your image everywhere with no end date, which is very different from a one-year regional campaign.

Check the media, territory and length of use, and ask for use beyond them to be paid separately.

The numbers

In May 2025, there were 55,000 wage and salary jobs for actors in the U.S., with a median hourly wage of $29.05.

These figures count jobs, not people, and do not include self-employed work — so they say little about how many actors work freelance or run their own business.

Usage, exclusivity and paid holds

  1. Usage — Check the media, territory and length of use. “In perpetuity, all media” is very different from a one-year regional campaign.
  2. Exclusivity — A clause barring work for competing brands can cost you other bookings. Look at how long it lasts and how “competitor” is defined.
  3. Payment and holds — Check when you are paid, and whether days you are held but not booked are paid.

Check the agreement before the shoot

The day rate is only part of what a talent agreement decides. Free: one analysis every 30 days, no card. Each analysis gives a risk read of the key clauses, quotes the contract's own words for its findings, and turns each flagged clause into a specific ask.
