For landscapers

Before you sign that landscaping agreement, check these three things.

Landscaping agreements with homeowners, property managers and businesses can run for a season or renew year after year. They decide what happens when weather stops work, who pays for damage on site, and how the agreement ends.

Low risk— mostly standard terms — low concern

This maintenance agreement is short and mostly ordinary, but it renews at the same price and leaves weather days unpaid.

It renews at the same price

The price is locked into every renewal, and changing it takes ninety days' notice before the anniversary.

Check how much notice is needed to change the price or end it, and ask for a yearly price review.

The numbers

In May 2025, there were 952,640 wage and salary jobs for landscaping and groundskeeping workers in the U.S., with a median annual wage of $39,150.

These figures count jobs, not people, and do not include self-employed work — so they say little about how many landscaping and groundskeeping workers work freelance or run their own business.

Renewal, weather days and damage on site

  1. Renewal — Check whether the agreement renews automatically and how much notice is needed to change the price or end it.
  2. Weather and missed visits — Look for what happens to payment when weather cancels a visit.
  3. Damage on site — A clause making you liable for any damage on the property can reach things you did not cause. Check what it covers.

Check the agreement before the season starts

A seasonal contract can quietly become a yearly one. Free: one analysis every 30 days, no card. Each analysis gives a risk read of the key clauses, quotes the contract's own words for its findings, and turns each flagged clause into a specific ask.
