What we measured (October 2, 2026)

We ran the same 12 sample contracts (leases, an employment offer, NDAs, freelance and software agreements) through FixMyContract and through a plain prompt to the AI model FixMyContract uses — not ChatGPT. The plain prompt had no other instructions: "Please review this contract for me. I am the [side]." Between them, the contracts had 85 clauses we had marked in advance as important.

• Important clauses mentioned: 85 of 85 in FixMyContract; 79 of 85 in the plain answers.
• Quotes that match the contract word for word: 245 of 245 in FixMyContract; 59 of 66 in the plain answers. The other 7 were reworded or slightly changed. Quoted wording that the plain answers suggested adding was not counted.
• Quotes of terms that are not in the contract: none in either.

What this does not show: we did not test the ChatGPT app, which has its own settings, file upload and model choices. It was 12 contracts, one run each. The list of important clauses was prepared by us, not by a lawyer, by people who may have seen FixMyContract's output — which could favor FixMyContract. A different prompt, or follow-up questions, could close part of the gap. In this test, a structured report covered more clauses and quoted more exactly than one plain question. It does not show that FixMyContract is better than ChatGPT.

Where ChatGPT is the better fit

• You already pay for it and just want a quick read. A free or $8–$20/month general assistant you already use is a real option — pretending otherwise would be silly.
• You know exactly what to ask. "Can they terminate without notice?" "Who owns the work?" — asking specific questions of a document works well in a chat window.
• You want to talk through the whole document, not just a summary. Open-ended back-and-forth is what a chat interface is built for.
