Free AI Contract Review: What You Actually Get (2026)

"Free" is doing a lot of different work across AI contract review tools: a one-time lifetime credit, a small number of lifetime reviews, or — in one case — a tier that grew a login wall between our research passes. Here is what each one actually includes.

Disclosure: FixMyContract, included in this comparison, is our own product, and our free tier is listed on the same terms as everyone else's. We built this list based on publicly available information from each provider's website as of the dates shown in each row — we have not used, tested, or received demo access to the other tools listed. Prices and features change; verify directly with each provider before deciding.

The short answer: every free tier we could confirm caps you somehow — by total lifetime uses (most common), by document size, or by feature depth. None of the eight publishes an unlimited free tier. If you need more than one honest read of one document, budget for either a one-time per-contract fee ($9–$49 depending on the tool) or a monthly plan.

How we built this

The same eight-tool pool as our freelancer comparison. For each one we reviewed the publicly available information on the provider's own site, looking specifically at the free tier: what it includes, whether it needs a card or an account, and whether it is a one-time allowance or one that resets. We have not signed up for or used any of the other seven.

Evidence levels: verified (confirmed on their own site, on the date shown), indicative (a third-party listing), or not published (we could not confirm it).

Quick comparison — free tiers only

What "free" means at each one, in plain English

FixMyContract: one analysis for the life of the account. You get your risk score, every finding by name, and the two most important ones explained in full — with PDF and Word export of that report. The remaining findings are listed but their detail stays closed until you unlock that report for $9 or move to a plan. Also not on the free tier: the suggested-rewrite text for risky clauses, document chat, and more than one negotiation-email draft a month.

ClearSign gives three free uses before you would need to pay, and it is a lifetime total, not a monthly allowance: if you read that as "3 free contracts a month," you would be wrong — it is three, ever, on that account. Justee's free allowance we could not confirm: their pages showed three reviews left this month on 23 September 2026, one on 19 September, and their earlier wording described a lifetime total instead.

Inkvex and VIDI both give one free contract, but VIDI's resets yearly while Inkvex's is a one-time lifetime credit — a real difference if you sign more than one contract a year. VIDI's own page shows its free analysis resetting on January 1 (checked 23 September 2026).

ContractClarifyAI's own site describes the first analysis as free when you sign up, which reads as a one-time new-account credit — but the page does not say whether that is a lifetime cap or something that could recur. We mark that unclear rather than assume either way.

AI Lawyer's trial length appears with different figures in different third-party listings, and we could not confirm any of them on their own site — a good example of why we do not publish a number we cannot source directly.

ScanMyContract is the one that changed under us: an earlier research pass had it down as unlimited, no-account uploads. As of our last check you meet an account requirement before you can start, we do not know what is still free past it, and we are not going to guess.

ReviewMyContract never had a free tier — $4.99 one-time was the whole model — and as of August 2026 their own site says it is no longer accepting new reviews. Listed here only so you do not go looking for it.

FAQ

Is any AI contract review tool actually free for unlimited use? Not among the eight we checked. Every free tier we could confirm is capped — by a lifetime total (most common), a document limit, or a feature limit. If a tool advertises "free" with no visible cap, we would want that confirmed on its own pricing page before trusting it.

What's the difference between a "lifetime" free tier and one that resets? A lifetime free tier (FixMyContract, ClearSign, Inkvex — Justee's shape is unconfirmed) gives a fixed number of uses tied to your account, ever — once used, you pay for more. A tier that resets gives a fresh allowance on a schedule; VIDI's yearly reset (on January 1, per its own page on 23 September 2026) is the only one we could confirm.

Why did you mark ScanMyContract's free tier "unclear" instead of describing it? Because what we could verify changed between research passes: it used to be open, no-account uploads, and now requires an account to start. Stating a number we cannot confirm would be a guess dressed up as a fact.

Does a free analysis give you the same quality as a paid one? At FixMyContract the analysis itself is the same one a paying customer gets — the free tier does not run a worse read of your contract. What differs is how much of the written report is open: free shows your risk score, every finding by name and the two most important in full, and the rest of the detail unlocks for $9 on that report or with a plan. We cannot speak to how the other seven structure that tradeoff; check their own pricing pages.

Among tools with a published one-time price, FixMyContract and ContractClarifyAI's $9 was the lowest we found among currently active tools (ReviewMyContract's $4.99 no longer applies to new customers).
