Six things worth checking in a sponsorship agreement

The deliverables list.

Logo placements, posts, mentions and appearances should be listed with numbers and dates. Vague lists lead to disputes about payment.

Category exclusivity.

Check which competing sponsors you may not take on, and for how long.

Use of your name and logo.

Look at where, for how long, and whether use continues after the contract ends.

Cancellation and changes.

Check what happens to payment if the event is cancelled, moved or reduced.

Morals and reputation clauses.

Some contracts let the sponsor exit if your conduct “damages” its brand. Check how that is defined.

Renewal rights.

A sponsor may have the first right to renew. Check the deadline and the price terms.

What sponsorship agreements in a public contract dataset contain

We counted clauses in the 31 sponsorship agreements among 510 public-company commercial contracts from the CUAD dataset (The Atticus Project, CC BY 4.0). These are larger-company deals, not a sample of every sponsorship agreement — use them as a reference point, not a rule.

Stands out

  • Duties that continue after it ends: 2 of 31 (6.5%) — across all 510 contracts: 35.7%.
  • A renewal term: 4 of 31 (12.9%) — across all 510 contracts: 34.5%.
  • An assignment of IP ownership: 1 of 31 (3.2%) — across all 510 contracts: 24.3%.
ClauseIn these 31Across all 510
A cap on liability19 (61.3%)275 (53.9%)
Liability left uncapped for some breaches8 (25.8%)111 (21.8%)
A right to end the contract without cause5 (16.1%)183 (35.9%)
An assignment of IP ownership1 (3.2%)124 (24.3%)
A non-compete5 (16.1%)119 (23.3%)
An insurance requirement11 (35.5%)166 (32.5%)

In this set, sponsorship agreements rarely continued duties after the end, rarely renewed on a set term and almost never moved IP ownership — they are short, bounded deals, so the deliverables list is what you are held to.

Small sample: with 31 contracts, one contract moves a percentage by about 3.2 points. A clause being rare here is not a reason to leave it out of yours.

Questions people ask

Is the sponsorship agreement review free?

Yes — your first analysis is free for good, one contract per account, no card. You get the risk score and every finding by name, with the two most important explained in full. The rest are listed but locked until you unlock the report for $9 or start a plan.

I'm a creator with a brand deal — which page fits?

If the brand is paying for your name, face or recommendations, the endorsement page fits better. If it is paying for placement at an event or in your content, this one does.

Can I upload the sponsor's deck with it?

The analysis reads contract terms, so upload the agreement itself. A sales deck is not binding and will not change the findings.

Is my sponsorship agreement private?

It is private to your account and is never used to train models. Uploaded files are deleted after 30 days. From 30 September 2026, your report stays in your account until you delete it.
